MAGIC BOX: HANDMADE BERBERY THUJ WOOD

MAGIC BOX: HANDMADE BERBERY THUJ WOOD

  • 28 Feb 2025 : 22:13 pm

This strong beautifully grained wood comes from the Atlas Mountains of MOROCCO. In the 1,500 year old Port City of ESSAOURIA many Craftsmen practice their arts. I have found this woodworker nearly living in a warren of this fragrant wood with shavings all over the floor. His smile shines from the shadows of his small shop and his few wares are always displayed proudly. Each time I return to MOROCCO I go to ESSAOURIA as part of my journey and I find the opportunity to go to his shop to support him by purchasing a few things. The magic box open with the easy twist of the top and reveals the secret compartments. Measurements: 5 cm unopened. 13 cm opened. (Diagonally)

EGYPTIAN LUMINESCENT PAINTING ON PAPYRUS

EGYPTIAN LUMINESCENT PAINTING ON PAPYRUS

  • 28 Feb 2025 : 22:13 pm

Purchased directly from the artistic commune in Cairo, Egypt in 2017 this large (190 cm , 6 ft by 85 cm, 3 ft) depicts iconographic images of ancient pharaohs, the pyramids on the Great Plain of Giza and other symbols of Egypt when it was the world's most advanced civilization. The canvas is made from papyrus the same as it would have been 2,000 years ago. Harvested from the seas of reeds that grow along the Nile this crop is dried and tightly woven into a tight mat able to absorb and hold paint. This fragile canvas is most often found used for written documents or small paintings. The size of this painting offered here make it highly unusual if not RARE. When viewing the Cairo artisans commune gallery this was the largest painting they had featured. It was not painted for the tourist trade but was exhibited to demonstrate the quality of work the studio was capable of doing. After exposure to light (artificial or natural) the painting will become luminescent because of the special paint pigments used in the production of this masterful work of art and history. When the painting shines in the darkness it reveals a scene unlike the image you see in the day. Framed in a white enamel frame with silver highlights. The image is behind strong single pane glass and museum mounted with hinges in order to float in the frame. Extra strength triple steel strains to support the framed painting as a wall hanging.

Tibetan/Nepalese Buddhist Thangka of the Lord Gautama Buddha

Tibetan/Nepalese Buddhist Thangka of the Lord Gautama Buddha

  • 28 Feb 2025 : 22:13 pm

Although in his teachings the Sakyamuni said not to make images of him followers of his philosophy have not followed that suggestion and each culture where Buddhism has spread has made images of Buddha that reflect their own ethnicity. This thangka is most closely similar to what those people from Lumbini, Nepal ( birthplace of the Buddha) looked like. The SAGE OF THE SHAKYAS still lives in the hearts and minds of people who share his philosophy. In Buddhism one can never own such iconography but we can be the caretaker of these things and pass them on to others. This thangka was hand painted on muslin cloth in the school of Sanja Lhama in Pokhara, Nepal nearly 25 years ago. The colors are strong and vibrant. 39 cm high and 30 cm wide.

Antique Rare Tibetan Thangka On Silk

Antique Rare Tibetan Thangka On Silk

  • 23 Feb 2025 : 07:11 am

This thangka purchased in Lhasa, Tibet nearly 20 years ago depitcs the founder of the RED HAT sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The work is completely hand-done and has the image on both sides. When I purchased the thangka neither the sellers nor I knew just how rare it is, but once I got it back to my gallery in the USA and researched it I was pleased to find out that that the craftsman who made it had worked on it nearly 200 years ago. It is a fine example not only of the craft of thangka making but it is a rare image as well. Thangkas on silk are extremely rare and should be cherished and cared for. I have travelled with this for 20 years but now must part with it for someone else to enjoy. 36 inches in height by 23 inches in width. More detailed images sent upon request. Serious inquiries only please.
