Other useful features include Panasonic's Advanced O.I.S. with Active Mode which compensates for shakes, shifts, and movement for both video and still images. Other considerations worthy of note would be the built-in flash and video lights, which are key to successful low light recording. In addition, the camcorder includes a stylus pen for easier navigation of the touchscreen. The HDC-SD10 provides a solid package, with user-friendly options for the budget-conscious. Full 1920 x 1080i HD Recording The HDC-SD10 records in 1920 x 1080i high definition to SD/SDHC memory cards (not included), which results in fine detail and high resolution when viewing memories on your HDTV 1/6" CMOS Image Sensor The 1/6" CMOS image sensor captures life-like high definition video (MPEG4-AVC/H.264) and 2.1MP still (JPEG) images 16x Optical Zoom 16x optical zoom brings far off subjects up close with little to no loss in image quality 2.7" Touchscreen LCD The 2.7" wide LCD gives you a generous viewing surface on which to navigate menus, compose and playback footage. In addition, the touchscreen allows you to pinpoint focus with iA AF/AE tracking Digital Stills The HDC-SD10 doubles as a digital still camera. Still images in the JPEG format easily upload to the Internet for sharing Advanced O.I.S. with Active Mode Panasonic's advanced O.I.S. helps suppress the effects of hand-shake as you shoot, for both motion and still images. This system uses gyrosensors to detect even tiny amounts of hand-shake, then shifts a lens and adjusts the optical axis to compensate. Because the system is optical, there's only minimal loss of image quality even when viewed on a large-screen TV iA for Smart Control Panasonic's iA helps avoid problems in difficult shooting situations by automatically making the optimal camera settings and activating certain functions. For example, iA now includes AF Tracking, a function that "locks" on and follows a subject as it moves, so images are sharply focused and properly exposed Creative Control and Workflow Features ● Video light and flash ● Built-in MPEG2 converter ● 1.9-second quick power on Manufacturer's Description Sometimes a scene is backlit or too dark, or it's difficult to get a good focus on the subject. Adjusting the settings every time is not only a hassle, it can be very tricky. That's where iA comes in. This powerful function senses the shooting conditions and automatically makes the settings and activates functions that will deliver optimal results. With both motion and still images, iA lets you forget about bothersome settings and makes it easy to capture beautiful, well-focused images. AF/AE Tracking Locks on a subject and tracks it. Touch the LCD screen to indicate the subject, such as a person or an animal, that you want to focus on, and let AF/AE Tracking do the rest. The camera locks on the subject and follows it around, keeping it in sharp focus and properly exposed. It keeps tracking even if the subject turns to the side. This advanced function makes it easy to get a continually clear, beautiful shot of the subject in the scene you care most about. Face Detection Face Detection Captures faces beautifully - even in dim or backlit scenes. it automatically senses the ambient lighting and adjusts the exposure accordingly, so faces are bright and easy to see. The focus also prioritizes the faces, and skin tones are smoothed. Faces in the center of the frame serve as the reference for adjustments, but the function can detect up to 15 faces in all. Intelligent Scene Selector The Intelligent Scene Selector function analyzes the shooting situation and automatically switches the camcorder to the Scene mode that will give you optimal results. This mode is ideal for shooting wide landscapes and sweeping vistas, such as at the ocean or in the mountains. It balances the exposure over the entire frame to prevent brighter parts of the image, such as the sky, from being washed out or having blown highlights. This mode captures faces beautifully. With Soft Skin mode, complexions are automatically enhanced to make faces attractive. The camcorder automatically uses this mode for scenes with particularly strong contrast, such as when you're shooting a spotlit area on a darkened stage. It captures the well-lit subject perfectly and prevents washed-out areas. In dim lighting, the camcorder automatically switches to a slower shutter speed so that images across the entire frame are bright and easy to see. Intelligent Contrast Control By detecting the intensity of the ambient light and adjusting the exposure accordingly, Intelligent Contrast Control prevents blown highlights and blocked shadows. This helps render natural-looking, highly nuanced images with proper contrast. Touch Screen Operation Control settings are made by simply touching the LCD screen. Operation is intuitive and easy, and the large letters are easy to read. Shooting and viewing are simple and stress-free – even for beginners. Advanced Optical Image Stabiliser Advanced O.I.S. ensures beautiful shots even with high-power zooming. Using the Advanced O.I.S technology, gyrosensors detect hand-shake and the lens unit shifts to continuously adjust the optical axis, so that videos are perfectly sharp and blur-free. Just lean back and enjoy capturing videos in their full natural beauty for the most clear and amazingly beautiful videos - even when shooting long-distance zoom shots. The known typical hand-shake effect is no longer a concern. 16x Optical Zoom The TM10 features a 16x optical zoom. You can zoom close to catch dynamic shots of distant objects. And because the zoom is optical, there's limited image degradation. Also, Panasonic's Advanced O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) helps prevent blurring – typically a big concern when shooting with a zoom. This combination of optical zoom and Advanced O.I.S. gives you the ability to take fantastic zoom shots. Highlight Playback Select the days of the recordings you want to see, and this innovative function automatically selects the most exciting scenes, arranges them, and plays them, backed by music. It decides how exciting a scene is based on zooming, panning, and scene changes, and whether there are faces and cheers. This gives you a quick, easy way to view the most exciting scenes all together. It's a great way to look back over exciting memories that you have recorded. Amazon feedback: Verified Purchase I've had this camcorder for only a week but have used it quite a bit already and am very pleased with it. The features and ease of use are better than I expected. The picture quality is superb taken in normal light using the HDMI interface on an HD TV. It's still very good using CVBS (phono plugs into an older TV). Downloading video and stills into a PC using the USB socket and supplied software worked first time. Stills taken during video recording and by themselves are very good despite being only 2MPixels and the flash is a bonus. The touch screen and menu system are very easy to use with Fade, Backlight & Macro being readily accessible; the camcorder software for once appears to have been very well thought through. Indoor video shots show a hint of noise so, as expected, the camera's main weakness will be it's insensitivity in low light, but it does have a built-in LED light. I've ordered the next size-up battery as experience with my Mini-DV camcorder tells me to have spare one for long trips; same for the SD card. So, for the price and features I would recommend this camcorder. This updates the above earlier review. After 6 months use I am as pleased as ever with this superb product.

Introduction Together with the D-Lux cameras the V-Lux bridge cameras represent Leica’s partnership with Panasonic. The previous model in the range was the V-Lux 4; this was a fantastic 12mp camera with a 25-600 optical zoom lens with a constant f2.8 throughout the full range. With Leica’s new naming method the new camera is just called the V-Lux . . . . with the (Typ 114) identifier. On paper the variable maximum aperture (f2.8 - f4) and the shorter zoom range (25-400) of the new V-Lux camera sounds less impressive. However, the new camera has a 1” 20mp sensor which has 4 times the area of the old sensor: V-Lux 4 1/2.33” sensor: 6.08mm x 4.56mm V-Lux (Typ 114) 1” sensor: 13.2mm x 8.8mm This larger sensor not only gives improved resolution and better low light performance, but also a larger effective aperture than that of the V-Lux 4. In addition, the new camera is the first bridge camera to offer 4k video. The sensor itself seems to be the same one used in a batch of successful recent cameras including the Sony RX100III, the Sony RX10 and probably the Canon Gx7. The New V-Lux is a complex camera and fully featured camera, and it’s outside the scope of this report to describe the details in full. However, in addition to the Leica documentation there is an excellent and detailed review of it’s sister camera at Dpreview: The Panasonic FZ100. It’s well worth a read. I’ve been putting the new V-Lux through it’s paces since early in August, including a 2 week trip to Crete (where this article is being written). In this case I haven’t so much been testing this camera (it arrived in it’s final version) but it’s worth pointing out that, as a tester for Leica, my allegiance is to Leica, and if I find things wrong with the camera, then my duty is to tell Leica about it rather than the world in general. On the other hand, Leica have never had any influence over what I write, and I wouldn’t dream of saying anything that I don’t consider to be absolutely true, or to leave out anything I consider to be a show-stopper The Body Leica has once again employed Audi Design to work on the new V-Lux, so that it has a distinctive Leica look and feel (as well as the traditional red dot). The camera is fairly big - an inevitable result of the the long zoom range, fast lens and the relatively large sensor. On the other hand, despite feeling pretty solid, it is also very light. This means that it is perfectly okay to carry around all day without stress or strain; on several long hot walks in Crete I carried the camera in one hand all day long. I put the camera through a pretty punishing time - high temperatures and a dusty environment. It performed really well throughout. There is a flip out LCD screen which turns in all directions; excellent if you want to use a tripod, it even turns right around so that you can do selfies! The LCD can also be turned back on itself (facing into the body) for protection. The LCD is a 921,000 dot display, whereas the excellent EVF is a 2.4 million dot unit with eye-sensor startup. You can easily turn the LCD off if you are only shooting with the EVF (and vice versa). The sensor based image stabilisation is very effective. I managed to hand hold 400mm at 1/25th on a number of occasions, of course, this doesn’t help with moving subjects, but it means that you don’t need a tripod for the longer focal lengths (tripods don’t help with moving subjects either!). The Lens The lens is a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 1:2.8 - 4.0/91-146 ASPH (equivalent to 25-400 in 35mm terms). It has a metal outer case and a knurled metal ring for either manual focus or for zooming. There is also a zoom control around the shutter release button (I found this to be faster and more convenient). The lens extends quite a long way when zooming, and the inner cylinder is made of plastic rather than metal. However, it all feels pretty solid. The lens comes with a petal type lens hood which reverses onto the lens for storage. It’s a fantastic lens, sharp throughout the range and with no obvious weak spots. Ergonomics and Operation As is common with most similar cameras, the controls of the V-Lux are many and configurable. There are 4 configurable function buttons, but almost anything else can be configured within the complex menu system. These controls are thoroughly described elsewhere with respect to the Panasonic FZ1000, and it seems unnecessary to go through them in great detail here. Suffice to say, if you want to do something there will almost certainly be a way of doing it! In actual use the camera is great fun. The autofocus is lightning fast, the tracking seems reliable and quick (not something that can be said of many similar cameras and usually the preserve of large DSLR cameras many times the size and price). The EVF works really well, giving clear information with high resolution; you quickly forget that you are not looking through an optical viewfinder. The shutter noise is virtually silent - if you turn off the camera’s shutter release noise then it simply makes a very slight ‘pop’, excellent for stealthy shooting. Conclusion The bridge camera has always been an enticing proposition but, for me at least, the tiny sensors they have previously employed have always been the spoiler. The wonderful 1” sensor in the V-Lux really does seem to be a game changer (just as it has been in the new Sony cameras). Historically speaking the Leica versions of Panasonic cameras have been a great deal more expensive. However, this seems to be changing. As I write, the Leica V-Lux is selling in the UK for £925 with a 3 year Leica warranty and a copy of Adobe Lightroom V5, whereas the Panasonic FZ1000 is £749. The extra warranty, the Audi design and the copy of Lightroom all combine to make the V-lux rather good value for money. Historically speaking the Leica versions also hold their value much better than the Panasonic counterparts. For many people the V-Lux might be every camera you need. Good for Video and Stills. Good for Macro or Sports, Good for Landscape and Portrait. The fast lens and long focal length makes it quite possible to isolate the subject. The RAW file options makes much post processing feasible and the 20mp is good for really large prints

Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II Digital Camera Combining a long-reaching zoom with versatile imaging capabilities, the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II is a well-rounded camera, also characterized by its ergonomic design and intuitive handling. Sporting a large 20.1MP 1" High-Sensitivity MOS sensor, the FZ1000 II is capable of producing high-resolution stills and video with impressively low noise levels and high clarity within the ISO 125-12800 sensitivity range. The sensor and processor also enable shooting continuously at up to 12 fps with single-shot AF, 30 fps at 8MP in 4K PHOTO modes, and UHD 4K video recording at 30p. Additionally, the 4K PHOTO modes allow you to produce stromotion images, which combine sequential exposures into a single frame for a dynamic finished look. Beyond the imaging, the FZ1000 II is mainly characterized by its physical design and expansive Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 16x zoom lens, which covers a 25-400mm equivalent focal length range, as well as a 5-axis HYBRID Optical Image Stabilizer to minimize the appearance of camera shake. Also notable is the camera's ergonomic design, which resembles an interchangeable lens camera, and incorporates both a 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and 3.0" 1.24m-dot free-angle touchscreen LCD. Additionally, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow you to wirelessly share imagery or remotely control the camera from a linked smartphone or tablet. 20.1MP 1" High-Sensitivity MOS Sensor A large 20.1MP 1" High Sensitivity MOS sensor helps to realize rich image quality with reduced noise and high sensitivity to an expanded ISO 25600. The imaging and processing capabilities also avail continuous shooting rates up to 12 fps in single-shot AF mode, 7 fps with continuous AF, or 30 fps at 8MP in the 4K PHOTO modes. Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 16x Zoom Lens An impressive 16x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit zoom offers a 25-400mm equivalent focal length range along with a maximum aperture range of f/2.8-4 to suit working in available light conditions. The lens construction incorporates five aspherical elements to minimize spherical aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range and four extra-low dispersion elements help to eliminate chromatic aberrations and color fringing. Benefitting the long reach of the lens is a 5-axis HYBRID Optical Image Stabilizer that compensates for a variety of camera movements for sharper handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. This image stabilization system also enables a unique Level Shot function that automatically detects the horizontal line of the recording image and keeps it level during shooting, regardless of camera tilt, helping to achieve greater shooting stability. 4K Video and 4K PHOTO Modes The sensor and processor combination also enables 4K video recording at 30p in the MP4 format at 100 Mb/s. Full HD 1080p and HD 720p recording is also possible, as well as high-speed Full HD recording with 120-fps slow-motion playback. Besides video, the 4K capabilities also permit recording 8MP stills at 30 fps in a trio of ways: ● 4K Burst: Just as with video recording, this mode will allow you to continuously record 8MP images at 30 fps for up to 15 minutes, making it ideal for instances where you need a fast frame rate in order to capture the best moment. ● 4K Pre-Burst: This mode is ideal for times when you're unsure of the critical moment to press the shutter button and will record 8MP images at 30 fps one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button in order to give you 60 frames to choose from. ● 4K Burst (S/S): This mode most closely follows the 4K video recording process, and allows you to playback your video, pause at the chosen moment, and use the shutter button to mark a chosen frame from the video and save it as a single 8MP frame. An Auto Marking function makes it easy to sift through the hundreds of frames captured with 4K PHOTO modes, and lets you jump to the nearest frame where differences are more pronounced between consecutive frames in order to minimize the time spent reviewing images. Additionally, Sequence Composition mode can be used to synthesize sequentially recorded images taken with 4K PHOTO modes and composite them into a single dynamic image (a stromotion) that clearly shows subject movement while retaining a single static background. Post Focus and Focus Stacking Another attribute of the 4K capabilities is a unique focusing method called Post Focus. Working in conjunction with the contrast-detection focusing system and the intelligent Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology, Post Focus records imagery as a 4K MP4 file at 30 fps and shifts the specific point of focus throughout the burst shooting in order to offer a range of distinct focusing ranges to choose from. During playback, via the camera's touchscreen, you can then tap the specific region of the image you wish to be in focus and an 8MP JPEG file will be created. Multiple individual files with different points of focus can be created from the original burst and focusing assist functions can also be used to gain even more precise control over the specific in-focus region. This technology also allows for producing focus stacked images in-camera to realize a greater depth of field, especially when photographing close-up subjects. In this mode, images are recorded and saved with varying points of focus and then blended together to gain an extended depth of field. Body Design and Built-In Wi-Fi ● A Live View Finder (LVF) is integrated into the body design to permit comfortable eye-level monitoring.
